TEACHING and PERFORMANCE SAMPLES
I had the wonderful opportunity to teach general music, and work with chorus, band, and orchestra groups while student teaching. My conducting, rehearsal techniques, and feedback grew tremendously over the semester, and I am happy to share some experiences with you!
Instrumental Lessons
I was able to teach brass, woodwind, percussion, and string lessons at two elementary schools. I worked with wonderful students who gave their best effort at each lesson! Below is a clip of warm-ups from a fourth grade trumpet lesson!
Beginner OrchestraFirst year string players, primarily fourth graders, are invited into the beginner orchestra. Each school has separate rehearsals, and in April, the four elementary schools combine to prepare for the spring concert. I was able to rehearse the piece, Samba La Bamba, with these students. This is their first experience in a combined rehearsal!
In the beginning of the video, you will hear counting and steady beat errors. We took a small section of the piece, and worked to make it better and better each time! By the end, many improvements were made! |
Lititz Elementary 5th and 6th Grade Choruses and Orff Ensemble
At Lititz Elementary, I worked with the fifth and sixth grade choruses and Orff Ensemble. I conducted one piece for each group. It was a great experience to practice conducting and rehearsal techniques. Here is a video of fifth graders performing, "Shake the Papaya Down."
I rehearsed a piece titled "Dance" with the Orff Ensemble. This was a new experience for me, and I had a great time watching the students perform on these instruments! Enjoy the final product!
Secondary Instruments
During student teaching, I taught instrumental lessons in woodwind, brass, string, and percussion. In each lesson, I played along with students on their instruments. At Penn State, I took woodwind, brass, string, and percussion methods courses. On some instruments, I studied beyond this basic level.
