TEACHING SAMPLES
In sixth grade, students learn to play ukuleles. They are excited to learn different chords and accompany themselves while they sing! I taught these students, "Wings of a Dove," a Jamaican song which uses only three chords. I was very pleased with how quickly they grasped this song!
Students in second grade read the book, "Mortimer," and added a song and sound effects on Orff instruments to enhance the story!
The clip below is of "Love Somebody," a song and movement activity that was used with first graders to celebrate Valentine's Day! The goal was to have the students singing in two contrasting styles.
Fourth graders learned the song and game, "Chicken on a Fencepost." After performing, students notated the rhythm of the song with the help of SMARTBoard technology.
During my experiences, I am able to work with two special needs classes. I plan activities based on motor skill development, coordination building, and classroom themes. I have a wonderful time working with these students. In this clip, we are singing a song about blasting off in our rocket ship, as they learn about outer space!
